Had to look up First Knigh! Don't think I've seen that one, but the pic on IMDB... yeah, I can see the hair/shirt thing working for you! He was much less 'pretty' in this than he usually is. Was? lol. Either way, I prefer the might have a clue what the hammer is for, look. Oooh, was their sword fighting in First Knight? That's sexy stuff, sword fighting.

If you're into sic-fi/fantasy at all, the L'Engle books are delightful. Girl driven [quite unique in the genre at the time] with settings that were almost tangible, a family with issues both normal and surreal. Tollbooth is just a general delight.

Mockingbird is rough, for sure. Come to think of it, I think I've only ever read it in warmer months. Maybe try it in spring when you can sit out in the sun and read? The movie is a little easier, but that may be because I'd already read it by the time I saw it? No matter, I hope you give it another shot.
